The FINRA Series 7 Exam is officially called the General Securities Representative Examination. It is a test for Registered Representatives, or those who want to sell any type of securities.
Once you pass your test you will get your Series 7 License. At that point you are qualified for the solicitation, purchase, and sale of all securities products, including:
- Municipal fund securities
- Corporate securities
- Direct participation programs
- Variable contracts
- Investment company products
The Series 7 Exam is 6-hours in length, and consists of 250 multiple choice questions, along with 10 un-scored pretest questions. The passing score is 72%. In order to take this exam you must be sponsored by a FINRA member firm or by a self-regulatory organization. At the exam you will be provided with scratch paper and a basic electronic calculator. No reference material or personal calculators are allowed.
